Decide which lines need saying. You should also consider how you want the lines to be delivered. For example, if the scene is meant to be comedic, you would want the lines to be delivered in a humorous fashion, or if the scene is an emotional one, you would want the lines to be delivered in a way that will touch the hearts of viewers and let them understand the scene.

Call for an audition for each character. You should make a script for each scene which the actors can read from during their audition. You or someone else on the casting panel should read the lines of the characters the actor is not auditioning for. Tell them a bit about the character or scene based on the previous step, and get a feel for whether or not they connect with the role.

Listen with your eyes closed. It’s all well and good watching the actor voice your character in person, but to really tell if they’d be good for the role, listen with your eyes closed. After all, you won’t be able to see the actor in the animation, so it’s no use if they have brilliant facial expressions yet lack expression in their voice.

Once you have found the perfect actor, record the scenes with the full cast. Make sure you find a recording date that suits everyone. If possible, hire a professional recording studio and somebody to record professionally. If you can’t do this, simply record with some microphones using your phone or computer. Next, mix the recordings with your animation. Watch the animation through to ensure that everyone is happy with it and that the mouths match up with the words being said. Finally, upload your animation to YouTube!
